who we are
About Mt. Elon
Mt. Elon has been in the Richland County area since 1894, and is on mission to lovingly reach all people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Our Story
Since 1894, Mt. Elon Baptist Church has been a place where generations have gathered to worship Christ, grow in faith, and serve their community. What began as a small one-room church has, by God’s grace, grown through seasons of change, faithful pastoral leadership, and steadfast commitment to the gospel. Throughout more than a century of ministry, our church family has remained rooted in God’s Word, united by His faithfulness, and dedicated to making disciples. As we honor the legacy of those who came before us, we look forward with confidence, trusting God to lead us into the future as we continue to follow Him.
Our Core Values
Learn more about our values and our story as a church by visiting the about us page.
1. We seek to glorify of God in all we do.
We acknowledge Jesus Christ as the head of our church and fully submit ourselves to His will. In every aspect of our ministry, our goal is always to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. We value Biblical Preaching and Teaching.
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative, and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for all Christians.
3. We see the necessity for continual Prayer.
We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities our church will be characterized by a reliance on personal and corporate prayer in all areas of our lives and ministry.
4. We value Evangelism and World Missions!
We believe in the Great Commission commanded to us by Jesus Christ and we are committed to reaching unsaved and unchurched people locally, nationally and worldwide. We will use every available Christ-honoring means to pursue, win and disciple the people in our sphere of influence.
5. We are a people of extravagant Generosity.
We believe that all things are first given to us by God. In that, we strive to steward well all that we have been given. Including our time and finances, along with the areas we are gifted in. To be generous is to be Christ-like, who gave of Himself in order that we might have salvation and eternal life. We long to emulate that love and generosity to all people!
6. We value Biblical Discipleship.
We believe that Biblical discipleship is a lifelong journey of faith that begins the moment a person trusts Christ as their Savior. Discipleship is not a decision, but a series of faith decisions, trusting God initially for salvation, and every day for ongoing life-change.
7. We value the need for Christian Community.
We believe that each Christian is called to fellowship, as expressed in both Sunday’s corporate gatherings and smaller gatherings throughout the week. Those gatherings are for the believer’s public worship of God, and the open invitation for all unbelievers to come to Christ.
